Choquequirao Trail, Peru
An alternative to the Inca Trail. We recommend this trail to Machu Picchu for several reasons. A) There are far fewer tourists. B) Along the way is the lost city of Choquequirao, which historians and archaeologists consider technically much more complex than Machu Picchu. There is an opinion that it was not built by the Incas, but by some very advanced unknown civilization. B) From the trail you can exit to the Salkantay Pass at one of the two most sacred and revered peaks in Peru (the other is Ausangate).
There is a lot to say about the route, but it would still be impossible to convey the experience that awaits you. After all, in addition to the wonderful mountain panoramas, the main attraction are the ancient Inca structures. Mysterious ruins immerse you in an atmosphere full of mysteries of an ancient civilization. Overnight stays on terraces in the middle of the jungle overlooking the Andes will be a highlight.
